“Ron Bergeron has been wonderful, and we truly appreciate his generosity for allowing us to have the event at his ranch once again this year,” said Bob Morency, market manager for Beasley Broadcasting. Morency’s daughter, Meggan, died in 2003 from injuries sustained while competing in a local equestrian event. To honor her memory and to provide healing to other children the Meggan Morency Wild West Night has been held annually since its inception in 2003.
Jim and Summer Robertson of Allegiance Crane & Equipment Inc. in Pompano Beach have been named as Honorary Chairs for this year’s event and have set a goal to raise $150,000 to support the therapeutic programs at Bit-By-Bit Medical Therapeutic Riding Center through the Meggan Morency Wild West Night. In addition to honoring local philanthropists, two participants from Bit-By-Bit will also be honored: Alex Marek of Fort Lauderdale and Stephen Ligeikis of Fort Lauderdale. Alex is a 14-year-old girl that has benefitted from the equine assisted medical interventions for over 7 years and a dedicated program volunteer. Stephen is a US Army Post 911 Veteran and a participant in Bit-By-Bit’s “Horses For Heroes” Disabled Veterans Program who also finds peace and healing from his injuries through working with the horses.
Bit-By-Bit Medical Therapeutic Riding Center offers specialized equine assisted medical therapies to disabled children and adults to assist in their healing process through the help of a horse. Bit-By-Bit also offers “Horses for Heroes” a Disabled Veteran Program for wounded and disabled servicemen and their families 100% free of charge. Bit-By-Bit provides approximately 6,000 therapy sessions to special needs riders from South Florida annually.
