Pony Scouts is a brand new program that Bit-By-Bit Therapeutic Riding Center is now offering designed to provide young equestrians with the skills they need to safely partner with horses. In true scouting spirit, the children will receive hands-on instruction with the horses designed to teach safety, communication, and balanced riding.
The six week sessions were created in order for the child to build knowledge and trust simultaneously with their equine friends.
We have not left out FUN though and have sprinkled in arts & crafts and mounted and nonmounted pony games to make this the most well-rounded horse curriculum available for a child!

What is Pony Scouts all about?
Pony Scouts is an on-going scouting adventure. All ages and abilities are welcome! Because our troops are limited to small groups, we give each participant roles and responsibilities tailored to their level. Each session does NOT repeat itself. We are constantly challenging our Pony Scouts to review and build upon their equine knowledge. It is not sufficient just to know—we also ask that our scouts put their ever-growing skills into ACTION.
Please remember that Pony Scouts is not an indoor, table top activity that is being heavily directed or controlled by an adult. We are trying to teach the children to work as a kind, compassionate, and unified group or herd. Skills such as turn taking, patience, working towards a common goal with a positive end product, independence, and functioning without the constant direction by a grown-up is encouraged. Horsemanship requires a lot of responsibility: caretaking, cleaning, grooming, training both on the ground and while riding, aftercare, barn management, paddock cleanliness and management, as well as a host of other seemingly endless labors of love!
Pony Scouts is about PARTNERSHIP with the horses and giving the scouts the access to learn the responsibility, the patience, the training, the discipline, the group or herd mentality, and the absolute JOY of being with the horse. Parents are also invited to join in the fun and learn with their child!
